United Nations should take notice of Christian church attacks in India
World Sunday, August 31st, 2008Convener World Minorities Alliance, J Salik has urged the United Nations to take strict notice of violence against minorities in India, ensuring peace in the region.
While talking to us, he strongly condemned these inhumane activities and said that it was state terrorism due to which hundreds of people had fled their homes in eastern India after clashes between Hindus and Christians.
J Salik condemned the attacks against human life and expressed his spiritual closeness and solidarity to all Christian brothers and sisters in their time of trial and suffering.
A peaceful rally, he said, was held near Press Club on Friday to spread the message of inter-religious harmony. It is the prime duty of Indian government to provide secure and peaceful environment to all the minorities living in India, he added.
Besides ensuring peaceful living atmosphere for them, the government must take action to protect the sacred religious institutions and places of minorities, he urged.
The mob attacks on churches and homes in Eastern India have left hundreds of people dead, he said, adding, 13 churches were burnt recently and several shops and homes were torched by the mobs as well.
