Rulers, please have mercy

Flood in Pakistan caused huge destruction, millions rendered homeless, many died, injured and displaced because of the nasty floods. This flood is the most devastating disaster in Pakistan’s history. But amidst all this, the stonehearted government has miserably failed in providing the people timely help. The estimated 4 million rendered homeless and 8 million are now dependent on aid for survival.

When our nation was going through huge destruction, trauma and tragedy, when people were begging for help, our President was on Europe’s joy-ride, focusing on his son’s entry into politics and ignoring thousands of Asifas and Bilawals who had fallen prey to monstrous floods, looking for a morsel of bread – they did not have eaten anything for last many days, they were without shelter, while our so-called democratic President was with his son and daughter staying in expensive hotel. He kept enjoying France and UK, while his nation looked for help. Everybody asked him to stay back but he just fulfilled his own desires and vested interests. The UK government executed Zardari’s demands or not but the President joined the club of those who received shoe-throwing with shame as international media also criticised Zardari’s tour.

The money which Zardari spent on his trips could have been used on the relief for flood victims. The government has failed to provide relief – a government that has fake degree holders and corrupt representatives.

Now the government is asking for aid but donors show sluggish attitude. They have no trust on the corrupt government. Our army moves ahead in relief process while our government is eying over international community for aid, individual donations for flood victims from around the world are coming in at a trickle. In this critical situation, Holbrooke taunted that Pakistan always preferred China and Iran over other states and now where were China and Iran in this difficult and critical situation. Leaders, who came with slogan of Roti Kapra aur Makan, must fulfill their promises now.
