Ridiculous reaction of Presidential spokesman

COMMENTING upon Saturday’s developments Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar has said that undemocratic forces were hatching a conspiracy to destabilize the democratic system in the country.

Mr Babar who is known for enjoying full confidence of the President and a recognized media friendly person should have uttered such words after thoroughly considering their repercussions.

It is funny and ridiculous that he does not realize that lot of water has passed under the bridges and people do not accept such theories. To accuse the non democratic forces which in plain words is army establishment is unbelievable and carries no weight. All the political parties in the country and the world recognise it that army is supporting the democratic system and has no intention to interfere in governmental affairs. In fact Chief of Army Staff has proved to be a stabilizing factor for the democratic process and his past acts are a clear manifestation that he wants all the State institutions to work within the parameters laid down in the Constitution. No one would buy the theory of the Presidential spokesman and a few PPP Jiyalas that non democratic forces were out to dislodge the PPP Government. From day one the Presidency and some leaders of the ruling party, totally devoid of the ground realities, have been creating troubles for themselves one after the other giving the impression that they are in a hurry to pack up. Almost on daily basis avoidable and unnecessary crises are being created to show that the PPP led Government is not being given a free hand to run the affairs of the country. Democracy is not the type of governance where a single person’s will or orders are final words. We have been advocating from the very beginning that elected Government must complete its mandate yet it is also the responsibility of the rulers to adhere to democratic and constitutional norms rather than indulging in confrontation with other institutions. We believe that actions that lead to confrontation among institutions serve no purpose and could lead to disaster. Presidential spokesman’s statement that the Chief Justice of Pakistan had been consulted before the issuance of the notifications proved wrong as the Apex Court’s bench suspended the orders of appointment of judges. We would therefore advise the spokesman to please learn lesson from the history and avoid making statements on self-perceived theories that are totally devoid of ground realities.
