Punjab govt was responsible for Rashid security

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, on Tuesday, said the probe into attack on Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was Punjab government’s subject; however, the federal government would extend full cooperation to the province, if required.

“Well, as the attack occurred within jurisdictions of Punjab police, therefore, as per legal provisions only the provincial management can conduct formal inquiry into the incident.

As for as the federal government is concerned, we shall absolutely collaborate with them, in case they require assistance,” Malik told journalists here at the Parliament House.

Besides, it was also responsibility of the provincial government to provide standard security to the VIPs and the VVIPs in the province, especially during certain situations, maintained the minister, replying to a question.

Earlier, Malik condemned the attack as ‘entirely an act of cowardice’ and said that report of the incident would be presented before the House once it is completed.
