Pervez Musharraf to support a new political organisation
Local, Pakistan Thursday, February 4th, 2010Former President General Pervez Musharraf has expressed his support to a new political organisation by saying this “grassroots organization of his supporters”.
Pasdar-e-Pakistan, (defenders of Pakistan) a group that was formed one month back with the aim to defend the policies and acts of the former president with “full force”.
Former spokesman to then president Pervez Musharraf, Maj.Gen (Retd) Rashid Qureshi, former federal minister Sher Afgan, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif and Advocate Fawwad Chaudhry are prominent members of this group.
Pervez Musharraf while answering weekly questions on famous social media website said that the Pasdars-e-Pakistan is holding seminars, conventions, press conferences and public demonstrations on issues of national concern and engage in building support all over Pakistan and beyond “I urge you to offer your support to it” he added.
Replying to a question about energy crisis and KalaBagh Dam he said that the Energy Sector was not neglected during his tenure but was given the high priority it warranted and facts which are visible on ground are being distorted or misinterpreted, either on purpose or due to lack of knowledge.
About KalaBagh Dam he said that it was his regret that Kalabagh dam could not be started because the project was so misunderstood, politicized and riddled with suspicions, particularly in Sindh, that all political leaders became vehemently against it.
“Inaction was on account of advice of political leaders. We however did initiate the Bhasha Dam, which is a reasonable substitute” he underlined.
Replying question about media he said he became victim of his own creation but he is a strong believer in freedom of the print and electronic media.
“. It was this strong conviction which led me to open up the electronic media to the private sector and remove all shades of restrictions on the print media, bringing to fruition, the long struggle of the media for freedom”, he said.
He also said that it is also the responsibility of media to show responsibility towards national interests.
“I expect them to hold governments accountable and responsible for their misdeeds in a fair and just manner. They must not distort realities and create misperceptions. At the end of the day they must ensure that the true reality and honesty win over lies, corruption and deceit” he added.
