Pakistans economy producing two million jobs annually

Caretaker Minister for Finance Dr. Salman
Shah Tuesday said that Pak economy being among fastest growing in Asia
was producing about two million jobs annually.Out of more than 160
million population of the country, 100 million people are under the age
of 25, having enough capabilities to effectively contribute in further
development and prosperity of Pakistan, the Minister told.

“So, the country is young and has lot of potential to grow and further grow,” he added.

He
said present energy problem in the country was caused by the rapid
growth taking place in the country’s industrial sector, creating gap
between demand and supply, adding the issue of energy is due to dynamic
economic growth and not due to stagnation.

Dr.
Salman Shah said the problem could be tackled by increasing power
generation capacity but important thing is that economy is growing well
and providing more employment opportunities to the unemployed youth.

Commenting
on the recent visit of President Pervez Musharraf to Europe, the
Minister said the President during his visit addressed
multi-dimensional audience to further improve the country’s image.

He
said President Musharraf interacted with private entrepreneurs,
expatriate Pakistanis, media persons and held talks at government level
during his recent visit to Belgium, France, Switzerland and United
Kingdom.

Dr.
Salman said foreign investors have shown keen interest to invest in
Pakistan after assessing the business-friendly atmosphere and policies
introduced by the government.

He
said President Musharraf apprised the world community that
sustainability in economic growth, poverty alleviation and provision of
basic amenities of life to people would greatly help in eliminating
tendencies of extremism and terrorism from the society.

At
present, the country is passing through a democratic transition period,
which would culminate on the upcoming general elections scheduled to be
held on February 18, the caretaker minister added.
