Pakistan is investor friendly country

High Commissioner of Canada, Randolph Manl and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Chihiro Atsumi called on Chairman Senate, Mohammad Mian Soomro separately at the parliament House and discussed with him issues of bilateral interests with particular reference to investment opportunities in Pakistan.

The Chairman Senate said that Pakistan in an investor friendly country with strategic location, friendly people and having advantages of easy availability of hard working but inexpensive labor and bank credit.

He said that country has the potential to emerge as a regional hub especially in trade and manufacturing. Power generation, infrastructure development oil and gas exploration, minerals and gemstone, housing and real estate are some of the sectors. Which hold great promise for any prospective investor. The foreign businessmen and investors should take advantage of the conductive climate of investment in the country the chairman observed.

During the meeting with Canadian High Commissioner, the scope of power generation projects came under discussion. The High Commissioner said his country has considerable expertise in Hydal power generation and Pakistan could benefit from the Canadian expertise in this field.

The chairman thanked the High Commissioner has said that possibilities must be explored in this regard. He thanked the High Commissioner and said that possibilities must be explored in this regard.

He thanked the High Commissioner for valuable Canadian assistance for social sector development in Pakistan and its support and assistance for rehabilitating the affectees of October 2005 devastating earthquake.

Whereas during the meeting with the Japanese Ambassador the two sides exchange views on further broadening and expanding the business and economic relations. While expressing satisfaction over the current level, it was observed that these relations could be expanded further to their mutual advantage.

The ambassador said that his country attach great importance to its relations with Pakistan and the Japanese businessmen and entrepreneurs are keen to expect a new avenues of undertaking business ventures with their Pakistani counterparts. He urged early activation of Pak-Japan business form.

The Canadian High Commissioner and the Japanese Ambassador commended Pakistan’s courage’s role in the role in the “War on Terror” and assured all out support of their respective countries in this endeavor. The Chairman emphasized the need to address the root causes of the menace of terrorism and extremism.

He also called for evolving an all embracing strategy focusing on winning ‘hearts and minds’ instead of using greater fire power only. He said that no religion in the world permits killing of innocent people.

He expressed the confidence that with education, awareness and creation of jobs and economic opportunities, we can still turn the tide in our favor as a great majority of the people in the troubled areas is moderate and enlightened.
