Obsessed With Pervez Musharraf
Blog Wednesday, August 26th, 2009The proud democratic servants of Pakistan who made a historical comeback in 2008 after vowing to serve the country on pure democratic lines are all set to abolish the basic foundation of democracy in the country.
The local government system introduced by Musharraf that proved to be one of the best things done by the former president is at the brink of being dissolved. Why? Because the system and the people running it are the remnants of the military rule of a general that these ’saviours’ of democracy are obsessed with. The ‘champions’ of democracy are all ready to become the murderers of democracy.Frustratingly laughable.
The obsession with Musharraf that our politicians and especially the PML-N is suffering with is beginning to get on people’s nerves now.Musharraf-phobia has hijacked Nawaz’s mind.It seems that the league came back to the power scene not to serve the country but to avenge whatever the Sharifs went through after the 1999 coup. Nothing’s wrong with demanding a trial for Musharraf but talking about him ALL the time can cost Sharif his popularity – Something that this astute politician fails to realize.Nawaz is giving an impression of a spoilt brat who would do anything to quench his thirst for revenge.Pakistan does not matter. What matters is settling scores with Musharraf. This attitude is beginning to recreate a soft corner for Musharraf in the hearts of many Pakistanis who were turned off by the high-headed general.
Pakistanis would love to see their representatives talking about them – for a change.
