Observation of two generals
Blog Friday, October 31st, 2008The world renowned French general and political leader Napoleon Bonaparte (1769- 1821) has a very excellent saying in which he has described ,in interesting style, the importance of bravery on the part of leader or commander He said “If the army of sheep is led by tiger even the sheep would fight like tigers ,however,
on the other hand if the army, composed of tigers,is commanded by a sheep then the tigers would become sheepish too What Napoleon has stated in early 19 century had already been said 150 years well before him by the great Pashto poet Khushal khan khattak,(1613 – 1689) also a well experienced field general as well a thinker per excellence, in his simple but beautiful verses He says – ( rough translation here)If someone is too much careful of his head(life) or of his wealth then such person can neither become Khan (leader or commander)nor king (ruler ) If he (leader)is not brave by himself his army can never exhibit or perform bravery The great Khushal Khattak has pointed out in those verses the intrinsically of bravery for a leader connoting that coward can never be a (true) leader And that to be brave is the basic sine qua non of a true leader.
