Musharraf says NRO was meant for Bhutto only

National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was promulgated for Benazir Bhutto, not (her husband and now widower) Asif Zardari, former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf was quoted as saying.

Talking to local newspaper editors in New York, Musharraf emphasised the NRO was only meant for former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, so that she could return home from exile, adding, “Not I, but the parliament elected Zardari as president”. The former ruler’s inference was that if Zardari enjoyed the benefits of seeing more than decade-old corruption cases against him quashed under the NRO.
