Islamic Muslim East London Mosque helps Christian Church by replacing lost money
World Monday, June 30th, 2008In a unique demonstration of inter-faith harmony, an East London mosque came to the rescue of a church
with monetary help after a thief made off with six hundred pounds raised for Christian Aid. When the Ilford mosque heard of the theft committed at the nearby St.Alban’s Church, the mosque elders decided to act and a collection was raised from kind-hearted worshippers.
The Chairman of the Ilford Mosque Ghazanfar Ali handed over the cheque to Father David Milnes who termed the gesture as “lovely and pleasing” while thanking the members of the mosque.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghazanfar said they have a very good relationship with the church and they were all said to hear the news. “We are friends and neighbours and we look after each another.”
Liberal Democrat Party councillor Ralph Scott, a member of the Redbridge Equalities and Community Council, also welcomed the gesture of the mosque. “I am delighted to be given this news of a practical example where one faith is being assisted by another at a time of crisis. The mosque has always been an outward looking group and shows Redbridge has reached maturity in building good community relations.”
However, the community leaders expressed their concerns over the lack of interest
shown by the local Police in tracing the culprit even though the CCTV footage of the raid was offered to it.
