India testfires nuke-capable Agni III missile

India Sunday testfired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Agni III ballistic missile off the coast of the eastern state of Orissa, Defense Ministry sources said.

“The missile, with a range of over 3,000 km, was fired from the Wheeler Island in the state’s Balasore district at around 11:00 a. m. local time. The testfiring has been successful,” the sources said.

Agni III, powered by a two-stage solid propellant system, is the successor to Agni II.

“Indian defense scientists have monitored the whole launch and testfiring and will soon analyze the data for any modification if necessary,” the sources said.
