Germany offers 250000 euro as earthquake assistance
Local Thursday, October 30th, 2008German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier offered his condolences to his counterpart in Pakistan, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, following the earthquake in Balochistan Province, which claimed many lives and destroyed hundreds of houses.
German Foreign Minister Steinmeier on 29 October wrote as follows to Foreign Minister Qureshi:
in a letter to Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, he said, “I was shocked and saddened to hear of the serious earthquake near Quetta. I would like to express my sincere condolences to you and the people of Pakistan, also on behalf of my fellow Germans.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those whom the earthquake has deprived of their worldly belongings”, he said.
Germany is ready to help swiftly and simply, should you so desire, he said. The German Government is in a position to provide 250,000 euro for emergency measures, he said.
“Please let us know what else we can do to help overcome this terrible tragedy. I have asked the German Embassy in Islamabad to act as your point of contact in this matter” Frank-Walter Steinmeier concluded.
