Expensive vehicles
Blog Saturday, June 5th, 2010As if profligacy displayed by administration and parliamentarians at the cost of taxpayer’s money was not enough that now the Judiciary too has demanded its share.
According to news appeared in a national daily, Sindh High Court has directed the government through the Advocate General to provide bullet proof vehicle to its Chief and Luxury Vehicles such as Land Cruiser for the Judges who visit interior for the inspection of subordinate judiciary. Moreover, court has also demanded standby vehicles to carry out functions like transposing air conditioners etc from the residences of judges to workshops for repair etc.
In a country like ours where its public representatives after voted to power forget their constituencies and settle in salubrious environment of Capital and more often seen attending functions in five star hotels wearing designers suits and least concerned with the miseries of their electorates and government officers enjoying unbounded perks and facilities are more interested in obtaining plots at nominal rates then alleviating public problems, it was the judiciary, a last hope of the downtrodden.
To great dismay and shock, our judges have also demanded bullet proof and expensive vehicles. Needless to say the judge who is dispensing justice without any prejudice should not have feeling of fear like officials working in the administration. Moreover, being the conscience of society they must appreciate that in terms of money what each luxury vehicle will cost to a poor country which is already burdened with more than 60 billion dollars foreign loans. Besides, the cost of change in public perception about the judiciary will be stupendous.
It is expected of superior judiciary to abstain from spending tax payer’s money on extravagant schemes such as buying expensive and bullet proof vehicles etc as it will not only tarnish the image of judiciary but will also cost the national exchequer heavily.
