Corrupt to Core: Nawaz Sharif You Owe It to the Nation
Editorials Thursday, October 29th, 2009Remember Nawaz Sharif slamming down Asif Ali Zardari, his corruption, NRO and other things during his public meetings throughout Punjab earlier this year as Nawaz struggled to restore the judiciary along with lawyers and the civil society? Nation responded and responded in a grand way.
Despite of the hardships and the dangers, people thronged the streets and filled the spaces in processions and meetings to the hilt. Nawaz Called and the people responded. The images of last procession from Lahore are still vivid, in which it seemed that the whole of Pakistan got out of their homes and work-places to get the judiciary restored.
Why people did that?
Because people wanted Change.
People of Pakistan wanted to have free judiciary, transparent governance, just society, equal oppotunities, peace, healthy economy and basic necessities of life. They rallied behind Nawaz Sharif because they thought that Nawaz would take them to the destination. What Nawaz Sharif have done so far?
After restoration of judiciary, Nawaz Sharif got relief from the court, have visited Dubai and London for months, remained confined to his Raiwind Palace. While he basked in that afterglow the poor people of Pakistan suffered through terrorism, load shedding, sugar and flour shortage, and poverty.
Nawaz Sharif must stop playing friendly opposition and stop trying covering up and saving the Zardari regime. Nawaz Sharif should also stop seeking permissions from the King of Saudi Arabia, as he is not our king. Nawaz Sharif should also stop playing double games regarding the US and other foreign affairs. Nawaz Sharif should also concentrate on lame performance his party in Punjab. There is not a single school or a university, a hospital, a water desalination plant, a bridge or a road, not to mention a mass-transit system anywhere throughout the province.
He should also stop giving hogwashes like meeting with president Zardari. Nothing concrete was achieved at the talks held between President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad. There was no breakthrough on the NRO or any other decision that could be classified as significant. Mohsin Sehgal
