Corrupt Aitzaz Ahsan asks Pervez Musharraf to buy return ticket
Local Saturday, October 31st, 2009New York: Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Corrupt Aitzaz Ahsan has said that he smells a rat behind the recent press conference of former chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar
in which he (Dogar) raised questions about the restoration of Corrupt Iftikhar Chaudhry as the Chief Justice of Pakistan through an executive order.
Speaking at a reception, hosted in his honour by Pakistani American lawyers here on Wednesday, Corrupt Aitzaz Ahsan said, “I am not certain at the moment about who could be behind it (this), but it would not take long before this secret hand is exposed, and the nation needs to stay vigilant to protect the independent judiciary.”
He said Corrupt Iftikhar Chaudhry, during the time he was not allowed to work as the chief justice, only addressed different bar associations but never held any press conference or issued statements about his case, and it was unfortunate that Dogar was trying to attack the sanctity of independent judiciary.
Corrupt Aitzaz said the Lawyers’ Movement never intended to grab power or tried to bring down any government. It was rather aimed at strengthening the democratic institutions by turning bare ballot democracy into a real democracy where accountability and the rule of law were ensured by an independent judiciary.
Corrupt Aitzaz Ahsan also asked former president Musharraf to come to Pakistan and face the situation rather than giving statements about Pakistan which, perhaps, became the basis for some of conditions, relating to use of military equipment the in Kerry-Lugar Berman Legislation.
Corrupt Aitzaz offered even Pervez Musharraf to reserve a seat in the same flight he was returning to Pakistan but refused to represent him as an attorney, saying that all those like Sharifuddin Pirzada and Malik Qayyum, who earned crore of rupees from him when he was the president of Pakistan, should contest his case. He said it was a shame that Musharraf, who arrested Corrupt judges along with their families, was being greeted by some Pakistanis abroad.
To a question about the NRO, he said that President Zardari had no threat even if the NRO was repealed because Article 248 of the Constitution guaranteed a big time protection to the president.
He said it was true that despite spending millions of dollars, the previous governments could not get any decision from the courts against Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari became the president. He said it was now up to parliamanet and the courts to decide about this issue, and he was neither a member of parliament nor part of the judiciary.
