Action against Musharraf Nawaz Sharif seeks Army support
Local Sunday, August 16th, 2009PML-N Qauid Nawaz Sharif has asked the army to detach from former president Musharraf and favour a legal action against him.
Addressing a national flag-hoisting ceremony here Friday on the eve of 63rd Independence Day, he said that it was imperative to punish those who violated the Constitution, insulted the courts and arrested the judges. Encouraging the army to part ways with Pervez Musharraf, he said the military should favour legal proceedings against him. However, he maintained that accountability should not send shivers to those at the assembly and it was essential to call spade a spade if the blood-spattered revolution is to be stemmed in the country.
He said Musharraf should be brought before the parliament to be questioned about the present power crisis. Nawaz said his party would not let Musharraf go without accountability and he has to answer the atrocities done at Lal Masjid, superior court judges and taking extra-constitutional steps.
Nawaz said Musharraf should be put in the dock for pushing the country towards crises. He urged the nation to decide on the Independence Day whether it wants to bring the violators of the Constitution to justice or let them go for another time. “We should stop the way of coups and martial laws in the country to make it prosperous and strong,” he said. He also urged the government to come forward to fulfil its duty. The PML-N chief said no resolution is required to launch an action against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and he must be brought to justice for damaging democracy and taking the country fifty years back.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said it is imperative to punish those who violated the Constitution and the courts of Pakistan and arrested the judges and added that Pakistan could not afford another martial law in future.
The PML-N chief remarked that at present nuclear Pakistan is facing many crises, including power, terrorism and unemployment. He demanded Pervez Musharraf’s trial for high treason. He said it was Musharraf and four other generals who planned Kargil expedition. Otherwise, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpai after nuclear experiments had told him that Kashmir conflict would be settled in 1999. Regarding acceptance of Kargil responsibility, Nawaz said he accepted the responsibility to save the national respect.
He said former President Ishaq Khan got angry with him and dissolved the assemblies while General Kakar before the dissolution of assemblies captured the TV station.
He asked the audiences to prepare for the national development by taking integrated initiatives to get the country on right track. He further said that our forefathers sacrificed their lives for the creation of Pakistan. Therefore, on this auspicious occasion let us resolve to work hard to strengthen democracy in Pakistan and follow the sayings of the Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said, “While celebrating the Independence Day, it is incumbent upon us to revive the spirit of national unity and follow the Quaid’s guiding principles of unity, faith and discipline”.
“Let us make a firm resolve today to make all-out efforts to achieve the objectives of creation of Pakistan and also to make Pakistan a strong and a prosperous democratic country where will of the people, equality, justice and brotherhood reign supreme,” he added.
Earlier, he hoisted the national flag at the building of Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehreek-e-Pakistan and cut the cake to mark the 63rd Independence Day of Pakistan.
