1122 emergency service to be extended to 24 more districts

After the successful launching of Rescue 1122 emergency service in eleven cities of Punjab, the government has decided to extend this service to other 24 other districts of the province with an allocation of Rs 2.695 billion.

Official sources told here Sunday that emergency service has already been provided to eleven cities of the province including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Sargodha, Sialkot, Sahiwal and RY Khan where 1122 emergency units are rendering more than satisfactory service.

The emergency service scheme in 24 cities will be completed in three phases. In first phase emergency service stations will be established at Attock, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Jhang, Khanewal, Layyah and Mianwali cities by November 2008. In the second phase, emergency service will be provided to Kasur, Okara, Vehari, Pakpattan, Ranjanpur, Bhakkar, Chakwal and Khushab to be completed by March 2009. In third phase, Rescue 1122 will be launched at Toba Tek Singh, Jhelum, Narowal, Muzaffargarh, Mandi Bahauddin, Lodhran, Bahawalnagar and Hafizabad by July 2009.

The double-storey building for each emergency station will be equipped with four ambulances, life saving equipment, two fire vehicles, one recovery vehicle, one rescue vehicle and one water tank. Each unit will cost the government Rs 112.297 million.
