10000 food bags and one stove to be given to facilitate earthquake affected people
Local Thursday, October 30th, 2008Rehman Malik, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior has directed Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan to prepare 10000 bags containing food items including one stove to facilitate earthquake affected people.
The directives to this effect were given in a meeting chaired by Mr. A. Rehman Malik, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior relief operations to the affectees of earthquake in Balochistan that occurred on October 29, 2008 was reviewed at Ministry of Interior.
The meeting was attended by Sardar Lashkari Raisani, PPP President, Balochistan, Syed Kamal Shah, Secretary Interior, DG NDMC and officials of the Cabinet Division and Utility Stores Corporation. It was informed that consequent upon this devastating earthquake, 149 people have died and 357 sustained injuries. However, final figures will be provided after a detailed survey being conducted by Government of Balochistan. The relief operations are in full swing and so far 1605 blankets, 1666 tents and 720 sleeping bags have been distributed amongst affectees.
Balochistan Administration, Army and FC are leading relief operation. 13 helicopters have been deployed to carry relief goods and to pick up injured persons. Besides consider number of relief goods, lifted from Karachi and Rawalpindi by PAF C-130 aircraft(s). To further boost relief efforts, Adviser on Interior directed Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan to prepare 10000 bags containing food items including one stove to facilitate earthquake affected people.
The Federal Government will continue to support Government of Balochistan to help earthquake effected people in these difficult times, the meeting was told.
